Salina students head back to school soon. Here's how to prepare for the first day

The back-to-school season is here and before long, the 2023-24 school year will be in full swing.

Whether your student is ready to get back in the classroom, or savoring the precious couple of weeks left of long days in the sun, there are a variety of things planned to help families prepare for the year ahead.

From "Meet the Teacher" nights to back-to-school barbecues and fairs, here's a brief rundown of what local school districts have planned before school starts back up this fall.

Salina Public Schools USD 305

Walk-in enrollment and the Saline County Back to School fair is noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at Salina Central High School. OCCK Transportation and Salina City Go will be providing free rides to families attending the USD 305 enrollment and Saline County Back to School Fair.

Elementary Meet-the-Teacher nights

Coronado Elementary: grades 1-5 will be 5:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 10, kindergarten 5-5:30 p.m. Aug. 16.

Cottonwood Elementary: 4:30-5:30 p.m. Aug. 10

Heusner Elementary: 6-7 p.m. Aug. 10.

Meadowlark Ridge Elementary: grades 1-5 will be 3:30-4:30 p.m. Aug. 10, kindergarten 3:30-4:30 p.m. Aug. 16.

Oakdale Elementary: 5-6 p.m. Aug. 10.

Schilling Elementary: 4:30-5:30 p.m. Aug. 10.

Stewart Elementary: grades 1-5 will be 4:30-5:30 p.m. Aug. 10, kindergarten 4:30-5:30 p.m. Aug. 16

Sunset Elementary: grades 1-5 will be 4:30-5:30 Aug. 10, kindergarten 4:30-5:30 Aug. 14.

First day for each class

The first day of school for grades 1-5, 6 and 9 is Aug. 11. The first day of school for grades 7, 8, 10, 11 and 12 is Aug. 14. The first day for kindergarten is Aug. 15 and the first day for preschool is Aug. 16.

Southeast of Saline USD 306

Online enrollment is open through Aug. 2. New teachers will report Aug. 9 and returning teachers will report Aug. 11.

Meet the Teacher night for grades K-6 is 5-7 p.m. Aug. 14 and seventh-grade orientation is 7-8 p.m. Aug. 14. Other students are encouraged to bring school supplies and meet their bus drivers that night.

The first day of school for grades 1-12 is Aug. 16. The first day of school for kindergarten is Aug. 18.

Ell-Saline Schools USD 307

Enrollment is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the elementary building and 5-8 p.m. at the high school building Aug. 1. Pre-K students can be enrolled at either building.

The first day of school for all grades is Aug. 17.

Sacred Heart Junior Senior High School

Enrollment is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Aug. 2. Teachers begin Aug. 9.

The 7th-grade orientation and barbecue is 6-7 p.m. Aug. 15.

The first day of school for all grades is Aug. 16.
