Saline County roundup: Sacred Heart sweeps Ellsworth; Ell-Saline sweeps Marion

ELLSWORTH — Sacred Heart's Max Ehrlich scored 11 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter of Friday's game against Ellsworth.

The Knights trailed by three at halftime and used a second-half charge to defeat the Bearcats, 46-43. Sacred Heart improved to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in North Central Activities Association play while Ellsworth dropped to 3-6, 1-3.

Sacred Heart trailed 10-4 at the end of the first quarter and 19-16 at halftime. The Knights used a 16-11 third period to take a 32-30 lead heading into the fourth.

Besides Ehrlich, Alex Disberger had 14 for the Knights.

Sacred Heart girls use strong second quarter to beat Ellsworth

Trailing 15-14 after the first quarter, the Sacred Heart girls picked up the pace in the second quarter.

The Knights outscored Ellsworth 20-10 in the period on the way to a 57-49 victory over the Bearcats. Sacred Heart improved to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in league, while Ellsworth dropped to 3-6, 1-3.

Sacred Heart increased its lead to 47-35 at the end of the third quarter before Ellsworth outscored the Knights 14-10 in the fourth and cut the margin to single digits.

Katie Weiss led Sacred Heart with 21 points, including five made 3-pointers. Maddie Ehrlich added 11 points and Avery Eshleman 10.

Ellsworth was led by Kylan Turnipseed's 17 points.

Sacred Heart played at Little River on Saturday and will travel to Beloit on Jan. 25.

Ell-Saline boys snap six-game losing streak

For the second time this season, the Ell-Saline boys snapped a losing streak.

The Cardinals ended a six-game skid with a 56-21 victory over Marion in Brookville to improve to 2-7 and 1-2 in Heart of America play.

Ell-Saline jumped out to a 22-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. The Cardinals led 42-10 at halftime and 53-17 through three.

Garrison Zerger led the Cardinals with 17 points, all in the first half, while Marshall Johnson added 12.

The Cardinals will next be in action on Jan. 25 at Minneapolis after their mid-season tournament at Canton-Galva was canceled due to COVID-19 issues within multiple teams entered in the tournament.

Sadie Bradley leads Ell-Saline girls over Marion

Sadie Bradley paced the Ell-Saline girls with 18 points in a 68-39 victory over the Marion.

Ell-Saline, the seventh-ranked team in Class 2A, improved to 8-1 and 2-1 in league play.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 20-5 lead after one quarter, which turned into a 40-25 lead at halftime.

In addtion to Bradley, Ell-Saline got 10 points from Raleigh Kramer. All nine players who played for the Cardinals scored at least three points.

Ell-Saline will travel to Minneapolis for a 6 p.m. contest on Tuesday.
