Salisbury man indicted on rape and assault charges

A Salisbury man was indicted by a grand jury on multiple charges of rape, assault and sex offense in early April.

Ricky Nelson Jr., 37, was indicted by a Wicomico County grand jury on April 3 on charges of second-degree rape, third-degree sex offense, first- and second-degree assault and sex offense fourth degree assault. On April 6, Nelson was served with the arrest warrant and later released on his own recognizance.

On Feb. 26, the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office responded to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in reference to a victim who had been transported by EMS to the hospital.

Detectives discovered that the adult male victim had been sexually assaulted by a subject identified as Nelson Jr. while the victim was unconscious. It was also learned that Nelson had physically assaulted an additional male victim in July 2018. Both assaults occurred at the suspect's residence in Salisbury.

Detectives believe that there may be additional victims. The Sheriff’s Office asks that anyone with information regarding this investigation should contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 410-548-4898.
