Salvation Army awarded United Way grant

Oct. 18—The Salvation Army 360 Life Center was recently awarded a $1,000 grant from the United Way of Cass County to help purchase new computers and printers so that the Center can be a resource for those who need help applying for jobs in the community.

Randall Birk, director of ministry and operations at Logansport's Salvation Army 360 Life Center, said the assistance from the United Way means a lot.

"We want to be able to reach out to the community and help more people get back to work and be able to help them fill out applications online," he said.

Birk said those who need help with job applications can come into the Salvation Army, print out info they need, fill out online applications, scan and send documents to potential employers and more.

"They will be able to get online and take the next step they need to get employment and change their family's life," he said.

Birk said the Salvation Army 360 Life Center will be able to assist visitors with any needs they may have when it comes to applying for a job, whether it's help navigating job search databases, understanding application directions, communicating with potential employers or writing a resume.

"We want to be able to help all age groups, 18 and above," he said. "If someone wants to get a summer job they can always come to the Center and we can help them do that as well."

Karli Armstrong, impact and marketing manager at the United Way of Cass County, said that the Salvation Army had been a United Way Partner Agency receiving an annual allocation for a long time.

"We're glad to continue this partnership through the funding of their feeding and financial assistance programs, as well as additional initiatives that benefit Cass County such as this one," she said.

Armstrong said it would be helpful to have the computers and printers onsite so that people can access multiple resources in one trip to the Center.

"I'm looking forward to the impact Randall and The Salvation Army 360 Life Center will have through this project," she said.

"Anything that we can do to help put more Cass County residents back to work, that's why the Salvation Army is here, to be able to help the residents of Cass County in general," Birk said.

He said that the Salvation Army is growing at a rapid pace and volunteers are needed for the food pantry and daily meals. The clothing ministry will also be opening soon, he said.

"We definitely want to increase our exposure in Cass County to make sure that Cass County residents know that we are serving all of the county," he said.

Birk said that the Salvation Army will be here to help those in need over the holiday season with food and gift assistance.
