The Salvation Army-Greenwich Service Unit looking for big push in final 10 days

Dec. 13—GREENWICH — The Salvation Army-Greenwich Service Unit needs help in order to reach this year's Red Kettle goal of $12,000. The drive officially ends on Dec. 24, but only about one third of the goal has been achieved so far.

According to Local Commander Janis Hunter, "Additional funds are needed to keep up with higher utility bills this winter and ever-increasing costs our clients face as they pay rent, buy groceries and put gas into their vehicles."

The theme for this year's drive is "Love Beyond Christmas," which reflects the need to provide assistance all year round, not just during the holidays.

You are encouraged to drop whatever amount you can spare into the big kettle at the Greenwich Dollar General on Fridays and Saturdays or into small kettles that are located at numerous businesses for your convenience.

Checks are welcome from individuals, organizations or businesses and should be made out to "Greenwich Salvation Army." Checks may be placed in the kettles or mailed to 4130 Edwards Road, Greenwich, Ohio 44837. Donations can also be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at The Ripley Church office Tuesday through Thursday.

"Your contributions are tax-deductible, and receipts will be sent for any checks received," said Treasurer Mary Oney.

The Greenwich Service Unit stands ready to help income-eligible families and individuals in the communities of North Fairfield, Greenwich and New Haven. Services offered include help with utility bills, food baskets, prayer support and referrals to other Huron County sources of assistance.
