“We are pleased to recognize Judge Stormer as a compassionate public servant that has made a real difference from the bench for our community,” said Maj. Robert A. Watson, area coordinator for the Salvation Army in Summit County. “She has used her keen understanding and knowledge to create programs for the mentally ill, rehabilitated felons and addicts.

“Judge Stormer’s work has been recognized and emulated across our nation. We applaud her work here in Summit County as it closely aligns with the Salvation Army’s mission of helping persons who have fallen into need.”

A graduate of Davidson College, Stormer received her law degree from the University of Akron and has served in Akron Municipal Court and Summit County Common Pleas Court. She started the first municipal drug court and the first mental health specialty court in Ohio.

Stormer established a model reentry court to help offenders become productive citizens after returning from prison. After becoming a probate judge in 2012, she established mediation, senior visitor and volunteer guardian programs.

The award luncheon will serve as the formal kickoff of the Salvation Army’s 2022 Red Kettle campaign. Bell ringers will accept donations at kettles throughout Summit County from November through Christmas Eve.

“With our community still reeling from the after-effects of COVID and the economy, there is a significant increase in need,” Watson said. “A strong start to the Red Kettle campaign is needed to support the life-changing programs we provide.”

Individual tickets for the luncheon cost $80. Sponsorships start at $10,000.
