Friday is the perfect day to dig deeply into your pockets or that spare change jar, and probably your wallet for the folding kind of money.

The national Salvation Army office announced Wednesday that Commissioner Bill Bramford III, the agency’s eastern territorial commander, has offered to match all donations to registered kettle locations on Friday in Stark County.

The effort is part of a national Red Kettle Challenge that seeks to “Double Your Donation” and “Double Your Impact,” the Salvation Army said.

Donations to the kettles allow the Salvation Army to provide social services and other programs throughout the year.

“The money raised will be such a blessing to us because we will be able to serve more people in Alliance,” said Major Tara Harrison of Salvation Army of Alliance. “We are serving over 450 families just this Christmas alone, and through the year this money will help us provide food, financial assistance and basic needs to those in need in Alliance.”

Salvation Army centers in Alliance, Canton and Massillon all have registered their Red Kettle locations. Kettles can be found at various locations around the county, including outside several Walmart stores.

If you are unable to get to one of the Red Kettle locations on Friday in Stark County, you can mail your donation to your local Salvation Army Corps at The Salvation Army of Alliance, 57 W. Main St., P.O. Box 2780, Alliance OH 44601; Salvation Army of Canton, 420 Market Ave. S, P.O. Box 20249, Canton OH 44701; and Salvation Army of Massillon, 315 Sixth St. NE, P.O. Box 276, Massillon OH 44648.
