Christmas is fast-approaching. It will soon be that time when shoppers are greeted by the sound of The Salvation Army bells ringing at stores around Tallahassee.

The Red Kettle Campaign is The Salvation Army’s major fundraising event of the year with all proceeds supporting programs and services benefiting people in need in our community.

The official kick off for the season will be Friday, Nov. 11, at the Hobby Lobby on Thomasville Road with the Advisory Board members ringing and greeting on Nov. 11.

Ringing will continue with weekend ringing at Bass Pro Shop and Hobby Lobby with full weekly schedule starting with the addition of Walmart stores on Nov. 19 and Publix locations on Nov. 26. Come out and support The Salvation Army on Nov. 11 at the Hobby Lobby and meet members of the Advisory Board of Directors and hear from them why they donate their time and believe in the mission of The Salvation Army.

A call has been put out for paid bell ringers. Applications and orientations are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17 and Wednesday, Oct. 19. Applicants are required to bring in a government issued identification card and a social security card. The event will take place at The Salvation Army office located at 2410 Allen Road.

The Salvation Army depends on volunteers in all areas of operations to guarantee the donations and funding received can go into programs and services for our neighbors in need. Individuals, families, friend groups, corporate, students – all are welcomed, and all are needed.

Two hours or longer shifts are available.  Sign up by calling 850-222-0304 ext.#109 and ask for Margo Armistead to reserve your spot. Or after Oct. 20 volunteer spots will be available on RegisterToRing.com

“Contributions to the Red Kettle Campaign enable The Salvation Army to deliver emergency assistance and support to individuals and families who come to us in crisis, often at the very worst times of their life,” said Capt. Herb Frazier, Pastor and Administrator for The Salvation Army for Leon, Gadsden and Wakulla counties

Capt. JoAnn Frazier added, “Our community faces unique challenges. Within our service area are two out of the 10 most economically depressed ZIP codes in the state. These challenges present extraordinary opportunities for us to serve one another in love. Our residents are still feeling the financial impact of the pandemic and now the inflationary prices are causing even more need.”
