Salvation Army thrift stores closed amid coronavirus, but still accepting donations

Salvation Army thrift stores have suspended retail operations during the coronavirus national emergency, but stores in Rancho Cordova, Modesto, Lodi and Stockton are still accepting donated clothing and essential household items to continue its residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs.

Along with its retail, the Salvation Army thrift stores also have suspended routine home pick-ups as authorities in Sacramento County and throughout California are telling residents to stay home and slow the spread of the coronavirus, which causes the COVID-19 respiratory disease.

But Salvation Army employees remain at many thrift store locations throughout the United States to accept in-kind donations, according to a news release. The Salvation Army also is accepting donations of nonperishable food, baby formula, diapers, wipes. and hygiene items to give to people seeking help at its shelters, senior centers, transitional housing programs and community centers.

Where it’s possible, donations will be accepted on a drive-thru basis at the stores and receipts will be available for donors. If a donor prefers, they can request a no-contact drop off in which attendants remove the items from the trunk of their cars.

The donation hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day at these locations:

  • 10309 Folsom Boulevard in Rancho Cordova

  • 4418 McHenry Avenue in Modesto

  • 520 S. Cherokee Lane Suite 130 in Lodi

  • 1247 S. Wilson Way in Stockton
