Sam Dekker, former Sheboygan Lutheran and UW standout, signs with London Lions basketball team

The Green Bay Packers won't be the only Wisconsin sports interest in London in 2022.

Former Sheboygan Lutheran High School and University of Wisconsin standout Sam Dekker signed with the London Lions on Sunday morning according to Twitter.

"IT'S OFFICIAL! @dekker We are very happy to confirm the signing of the talented forward with NBA & EuroCup experience - Sam Dekker! #wearelondon #londonlions #samdekker #BritishBasketball," the team tweeted.

Dekker, who was drafted No. 18 overall in 2015 by the Houston Rockets, spent four seasons in the NBA while playing for Houston, the Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Washington Wizards and the Toronto Raptors. He also has spent four seasons overseas.

He was released by the Raptors early last season and returned overseas to Turkey, playing for Bahçeşehir Koleji of the ING Basketbol Süper Ligi.

The London Lions compete in the British Basketball League, which is the top tier in British basketball. The team most recently competed in the FIBA Europe Cup, which was won this past season by Dekker's Turkish team.

Shortly after the team announced his signing, Dekker tweeted it.

"Next stop, London #Year8. @EuroCup. @BBLofficial," Dekker tweeted.

It's been a busy summer for Dekker and his wife, Olivia Harlan Dekker, with son Harlan Wolf Dekker being born in early May.

Dekker recently took his son to a practice at Sheboygan Lutheran, where he won the first WIAA boys basketball title in program history in 2012.
