Sam Heughan Is Lining Up What May Be His First Post-'Outlander' Role

Sam Heughan may no longer be in the running to play super spy James Bond, but he isn’t wasting any time lining up his next big-screen role.
Deadline reports that the hot Scot is “circling” the role of Deacon St. John in the apocalyptic story Days Gone, which is being developed by Sony PlayStation Productions following the success of Uncharted, which was based on a PlayStation game.

What isn’t clear is if this will be Heughan's first role post-Outlander Season 7, or if it will be sandwiched between Season 7 and Season 8 as STARZ has yet to pick up the epic romantic drama, based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon, for another season.
According to the PlayStation site, “Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game set in a harsh wilderness two years after a devastating global pandemic. Play as Deacon St. John, a drifter and bounty hunter who rides the broken road, fighting to survive while searching for a reason to live.”
Heughan is an avid motorbike enthusiast, having officially passed his motorbike test in 2020, and has used his skill to good purpose when he rode in the Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride in Edinburgh to raise money for men's mental health and cancer charities. So, he sounds like a natural to take on the role of Deacon St. John.
Heughan will be seen in the upcoming film It’s All Coming Back to Me, scheduled for release Feb. 10, 2023. Previous credits include SAS Red Notice, The Spy Who Dumped Me, and Bloodshot.
Outlander Season 7 is currently filming in Scotland for release in 2023 on STARZ. As for it's future, Starz’s President of Original Programming Kathryn Busby told Deadline, following the announcement of the Outlander prequel, Blood of My Blood, "Outlander is such a very important show for us that we would love to have as much Outlander as we possibly can have. [The prequel will] absolutely not [take away Starz’s commitment to the original series]. What we’ve proven with the Power franchise is that we can have different lanes of storytelling around the same base. We believe that we can do that with Outlander as well. They are not mutually exclusive at all.”
