Sam Neill has insisted, "I am firmly in remission", amid "conflated" reports of his cancer prognosis.

The Jurassic Park star posted a video message on social media reassuring his friends and fans, saying "please stop worrying... all is well" after it was reported he had prepared himself for the inevitable fact his cancer treatment will stop working.

Neill, 76, posted on Instagram: "ALL IS WELL . I AM WELL !! Please ignore conflated stories in the press today.

"A passing remark on the program last night has been taken out of context . Please be assured that I am firmly in remission, and plan to remain so for years to come."

The Peaky Blinders star smiled in the video filmed on his sunny veranda in Australia as he said: "Good morning. I'm back on the veranda and it's a beautiful day. They showed Australian Story last night and I made a passing remark that the treatment I'm on, which has me in remission, will inevitably fail one day. That's what happens, it's nothing to worry about.

"I'm in remission. I plan to be in remission for many more years to come. I'll bore you all to death with lots more work.

"And as such time that it does fail, we'll try something else. There's lots of things that are happening with cancer these days. It's a whole new ball game."

He sounded emotional as he went on: "Please stop worrying. I'm getting messages on social media and from friends. I'm sorry to worry everybody. It's all good, it's all fine, it's a beautiful day and I'm off to work."

Neill revealed in March 2023 that he had been diagnosed with Stage Three non-Hodgkin blood cancer, angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma.

In an interview with Australian Story, he revealed that a difficult course of chemotherapy had failed to treat his cancer but he was now taking a new experimental drug that was keeping him in remission.

Neill said on the show: "I'm not in any way frightened of dying. That doesn't worry me. It's never worried me from the beginning, but I would be annoyed.

'I'd be annoyed because there are things I still want to do. Very irritating, dying. But I'm not afraid of it."

The Twelve star is currently filming TV mystery drama series Apples Never Fall with Annette Benning in Queensland, Australia.

In March, Neill shared a video on Instagram reassuring fans he was "alive and kicking and very happy to be going back to work."

The New Zealand actor - who holds dual British citizenship as he was born in Northern Ireland - has said he has no intention of retiring.

He told The Independent earlier this year: “The idea of giving up my day job? Intolerable!.

“I love acting. It’s really good for me to keep walking onto new sets with young actors and all that stimulation. New words, new ideas, there’s nothing like it. I never want to give that up. The idea of retirement, of having to play golf, fills me with untold dread."
