Who should be the Sames Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week?

Week 6 of the high school football season produced numerous big rushing nights in the Corpus Christi area and several are among the finalists for the Sames Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week.

The Caller-Times is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close on Thursday and the winners will be announced Friday each week.

West Oso's Elijah Huff came close to another 300-yard night with 296 yards and four touchdowns against TAPPS foe Lake Country Christian.

Tuloso-Midway's Joseph Tamez was key for the Warriors in a huge District 16-4A Division I win against La Feria, totaling 197 yards and two scores.

Carroll's Leroy Rodriguez had 171 yards and three touchdowns rushing and was a big factor in the Tigers' passing game with three catches for 74 yards as his team improved to 3-2.

THIS WEEK'S NOMINEES

• Lonnie Adkism, Miller football — Adkism caught six passes for 170 yards and four touchdowns, including a 93-yard touchdown pass in the Bucs win against Victoria East.

• Elijah Durrette, Veterans Memorial football — Durrette was 18 of 29 for 240 yards and four touchdowns passing, adding 20 yards and a score on the ground in a District 14-5A Division I win against Ray.

• Samuel Holden, Rockport-Fulton tennis — Holden went 3-0 last week, helping the Pirates to a win against Port Aransas.

• Elijah Huff, West Oso football — Huff continued his dominant season with 36 carries for 296 yards and four touchdowns, his fourth game this season with at least 289 yards on the ground.

• Luke Medina, Calallen football — Medina scored three touchdowns on five carries, totaling 62 yards and returned a free kick for a touchdown in the Wildcats' District 16-4A Division I win against Kingsville.

• Leroy Rodriguez, Carroll football — Rodriguez tallied 171 yards and three touchdowns rushing to go with 74 yards receiving in the Tigers' District 14-5A Division I win against King.

• Tori Stratmann, Calallen volleyball — Stratmann totaled 19 kills and 39 digs last week, including 16 kills and 29 digs in a key five-set win against rival Tuloso-Midway in district play.

• Joseph Tamez, Tuloso-Midway football — Tamez tallied 197 yards and two touchdowns as T-M improved to 5-1 for the first time since 2009.
