Sammy Clemons among the 23 MU Remembers honored with memorial ceremonu
The University of Missouri honored members of its university family it had lost in the past year with a memorial service Friday afternoon.
MU Remembers memorialized the late 23 students, faculty members and staff at MU. Among those remembered were Sammy Clemons, who was tragically killed in January, and Alex Jackson, a Marching Mizzou member who died in November after a battle with cancer.
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students University of Missouri Bill Stackman began the ceremony, saying the university and community will remember the personal and professional contributions the community members made in their time at MU.
"Today we remember the loss of our community members," Stackman said. "We celebrate their lives and the contributions they have made."
The students that were memorialized were given a reserved chair with a nameplate, yellow flower and graduation sash.
The Switzler Hall bell rang after each name was read. The alma mater was sung later. Some family members and friends of those being honored were emotional as the memorial ended.
