Those of you who have been reading this column for a while probably know that I lived in Big Lake for 27 years. My husband was pastor of the First Baptist Church and I taught at Reagan Country Elementary School. Their motto of "Living is Great in Big Lake," was very true for us and our three children. Our son Byron still lives there and enjoys taking his granddaughter Lily to the parks and golf course when she visits him.

In Big Lake, I played bridge in a group of the best friends ever – Cathy Sellman, Alice Gooch, Vicky Fisher, Bonnie Everett, Jane Martin, Mae Avis Wright, Judy Clayton, Jimmy Teel, Connie Armstrong, Jo Ann Stout and Mary Lou Elkins.  It was lots of fun, but it was a lot of work when it was your turn to hostess. You know I have a pretty-big lazy streak and prefer to let somebody else do most of the work, if at all possible. So, when I had the idea of a get-together where I could meet a lot of party bridge players, I decided right away that would be too much work.  You can imagine my excitement to learn the Daughters of the Nile were inviting all of us to a day of bridge, Mahjong, and Hand and Foot, and they are doing all the work. All we have to do is call and register, then show up with $35 on Saturday, November 5. What a deal! They are serving a continental breakfast and a wonderful lunch of homemade goodies.

Let me encourage all of you to call Bert Brewer (325-949-4754) or Suzanne Gates (214-244-8506) to let them know you are coming and what game you want to play. Then come to the Suez Shrine Center that morning to register and pay at 9:00. Play will begin about 10:00. By the way, all the bridge will use contract bridge scoring. You and your partner can play your normal party or duplicate way. Remember, this is for both men and women. Set your television to record any football games you don't want to miss. Enjoy a fun day and be sure to thank the Shriner folks who will do all the work!

For you duplicate players, I have more good news. You know what an accomplishment it is to become a Life Master. It is not easy to earn all the points needed for that--especially the gold points! So, when one of us reaches that goal, we like to honor and celebrate them. That is what we will do on Saturday, November 12, at the Sue Barber Bridge Center on Locust Street. We will begin with lunch at 12:00, with the celebration to follow. The bridge game which is a Unit 204 Championship with extra points will begin when the program is finished.

The honoree is new Life Master Carol Diminnie, and we all want to congratulate her. I hear there will be toasting and roasting by some of her best friends. You will not want to miss it. All the work is being done by the hostesses. They just ask that you contact Marifrances Watson at 325-277-9959 to let her know you will be playing. That way they will know how much food to prepare.

The next couple of weeks are just full of fun things to do. Don't miss out on any of it.

Remember, regular bridge games will continue at the Senior Center on Fridays at 1:00. Joanne Rice is their contact person, and I appreciate her letting me know the big winners each week. I hope to meet some of you on November 5.

The two duplicate clubs will have their regular games. Sue Henry's club plays on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 1:00 at San Angelo Country Club. We missed our good SACC friend Josie this week and hope she gets well real soon. Sue's contact number is 325-656-0473. The San Angelo club has games at 1:30 on Mondays and Fridays at the Sue Barber Bridge Center. Contact Marifrances Watson at 325-277-9959 to get in a game. She has people who want to play but need a partner. Just call her.

Have a fun Halloween! Drive carefully and watch for the trick-or-treaters!
