This was a good week with lots of people playing bridge in many games. The scores were high also, but I did not see any grand slams bid and made. There were several small slams bid and made, though. That Grand Slam pot may not last very long before somebody wins it again. The Sue Henry Club had their November birthday celebration on Tuesday with the four celebrants present. Marty Simpson, Terri Tedford, Brenda Chapman, and Nancy Harris enjoyed their cake and ice cream. We enjoyed it along with them.

As I write this on Thursday, I am looking forward to playing in the Daughters of the Nile Game Day on Saturday. I will tell you all about it next week and hope I will get to tell you I made a lot of new game-playing friends. Saturday evening, I will also enjoy the extra hour we get from letting our clocks Fall Back. The early sunsets are not enjoyable, however.

To join in San Angelo's bridge games at 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays call Sue Henry at 325-656-0473.

It was a delightful surprise to receive a nice email from Jana Barnard last week.

She shared interesting connections with some of the people I mentioned in this column. She taught at Wall with Sharon Haney and Sue Henry, and her daughters were dance students of Julie Moorman. Jana also spent a few years in Big Lake while her father coached there with Wilburn George. She was a member of the First Baptist Church while there.

Jana also told me that she remembers meeting my daughter Shelley while subbing in a Bunco game at the home of Nan Reeves. What she did not mention is the fact that she is now the mother-in-law of Nan's son Ryan, and both Ryan and his brother Bradley were in Shelley's wedding to Scott Blanton back in 1988. Jana now lives in San Antonio, but she has open invitation to come and play bridge with us if she gets back to San Angelo for a visit.

The Sue Henry Club is pleased to have Terri Tedford helping Sue, along with Candyce Pfluger, while Jerre McAfee is taking some time off. We miss the McAfees, and everybody is pitching in to do lots of the things they took care of so faithfully. I especially miss Mike who is my regular partner (even when anonymous!) and faithful care giver. Y'all enjoy your time away, but don't forget us!

Sue's club plays at the San Angelo Country Club on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons at 1:00. Players of all levels are welcome to join her games. Just contact her at 325-656-0473. You are also invited to join the group for lunch at 12:00 if you choose.

The San Angelo Bridge Club has regular games every Monday and Friday afternoon at 1:30. They play at the Sue Barber Bridge Center on Locust Street. Marifrances Watson directs the games and is the contact person if you want to play. (325) 277-9959) They have one Saturday game a month and that is coming up on November 12. That is when the bridge community will honor new Life Master Carol Diminnie. The festivities will begin at about 12:00 with lunch being provided by the hostesses. The program will begin about 12:45. So, even if you choose to skip the lunch, please come for the program so that the game can begin as soon as it is over. Be sure to let Marifrances know if you want to play.

Every day of this Thanksgiving season I hope you can enjoy all the wonderful things in your life with thankful hearts.  I hope most of those are not things but people.

I would like to hear from more of you this week. My email is pabitner@aol.com.
