The San Angelo Broadway Academy will present the musical Broadway comedy, Hairspray, from May 13-15 at Murphey Performance Hall. The Tony Award-winning show is full of high-energy songs and dances that being a message of inclusivity to the stage.
In Hairspray, it's 1962 — the '50s are out, and change is in the air. Baltimore's Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion — to dance. She wins a spot on the local TV dance program, The Corny Collins Show, and is transformed from outsider to irrepressible teen celebrity overnight.
Can a plus-size trendsetter in dance and fashion vanquish the program's reigning princess, win the heart of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a television show without denting her 'do?
Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for kids (age 12 and under), and can be purchased in advance at www.sanangelopac.org or at the door prior to the performance.
Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
