San Angelo Central knocks off Abilene High boys in overtime; Lady Cats beat AHS girls

SAN ANGELO - San Angelo Central outscored Abilene High 10-0 in overtime to beat the Eagles 69-59 in a District 2-6A boys basketball game Friday.

The Eagles took a 47-42 lead into the final quarter, but the Bobcats rallied to send it into overtime.

Central hit 8 of 12 free throws in overtime to go with one basket, while AHS was 0 for 2 from the free-throw line in the extra period.

Raven Ortiz led the Bobcats (17-6 overall, 3-1 district) with 14 points, while Chase Fields had 13, and Jaedyn Gipson had 11. Dre Young also had 10.

Jeremiah Talib led AHS (8-16, 1-2) with a game-high 21 points, and Hayden Williams followed with 14.

Talib hit five of the Eagles’ 12 3-point goals. Central had two 3s and hit two less field goals overall than AHS. But the Bobcats converted 26 of 39 free throws, while the Eagles went to the free-throw line six times hitting three.

AHS plays Tuesday at Odessa Permian in a league game.

Lady Cats deal AHS girls loss

At San Angelo, Jewels Perez and Deandra Allen combined for 28 points as Central beat Abilene High 50-27 in a District 2-6A game.

Perez led the Lady Cats (18-10, 4-2) with a game-high 16 points, and Allen added 12.

Ariana Trevino led the Lady Eagles (5-22, 0-6) with 11 points, and Samia Cooper had seven.

AHS begins the second half of district play Tuesday at Odessa Permian.
