San Angelo high school sports update: Rambelles pick up key win vs. Lubbock Christian

ANGELO STATE UPDATE

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

ANGELO STATE 53, LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN 51

In a competitive contest that came down to the last second, the Angelo State women's basketball team defeated Lubbock Christian 53-51 after Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant drained a step back jumper with less than a second remaining to give the Lady Chaps their second conference loss.

The Rambelles improve to 12-3 on the year and are 8-1 in Lone Star Conference action after winning their seventh consecutive contest. The Lady Chaps fall to 11-5 overall and 6-2 in LSC play.

CENTRAL 9, SNYDER 0

T.J. Alvarado and Brandon Cedillo each recorded hat tricks as Central improved to 2-0 on the season.

Andrew Espinoza, Sean Snyder and Aiden Plymell also scored for the Bobcats as Plymell added two assists. Gabriel Quiros also had two assists, and Ashton Tapia, Espinoza, Nathan Ramos and Bryan Parra also added helpers in the win.

David Quiros and Caleb Catano also combined for a shutout.

CENTRAL 4, SAN ANTONIO SOTOMAYOR 1

The Bobcats opened the Alamo Heights Invitational Tournament with a 4-1 win on Thursday. TJ Alvarado and Aiden Plymell scored first half goals, and Jacob Castro and Alvarado each added second half goals. Sean Snyder and Andrew Espinosa added assists in the victory.

CENTRAL 1, SAN ANTONIO ALAMO HEIGHTS 0

Andrew Espinoza scored the game's lone goal in a victory on Friday to advance to the championship of the Alamo Heights Invitational. T.J. Alvarado earned the assist, and goalkeepers David Quiros and Caleb Catano combined on the shutout.

The Bobcats (4-0) faced Waxahachie for the tournament title on Saturday.

LAKE VIEW 11, DEL RIO HERITAGE 2

Cameron Mobley and Giovanni Mendoza combined to allow two goals for the Chiefs in a blowout victory on Friday.

Lake View is 2-0-1 on the season.

LAKE VIEW TAKES SECOND AT TOURNEY

The Lake View girls soccer team finished second at the 2023 Lady Indian Tournament in Alvarado this past weekend.

The Maidens started the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Wichita Falls as Jazmyne Flores scored off a Sarahi Rodriguez assist. Lake View then played to a scoreless draw against Waxhachie Life as Jennifer Mata recorded seven saves in goal.

The Maidens finished the tournament with a 5-0 victory against Waco Connally as Alexandria Flores scored two goals and Alyssa DeLaCruz, Jazmyne Flores and Janessa Rocha each added goals in the victory. Assists were compiled by Jazmyne Flores, Illiana Soria, Faith Miller and Isabel Cabrera.

Mata and Zoe Espinosa combined on the shutout.

The Maidens are 1-0-2 this season.
