San Angelo Police Department announces death of K-9 Duke

The San Angelo Police Department has announced the death of K-9 Duke.

"K9 Duke started his career with the SAPD in 2013 where he served the department for 7 years and 10 months," according to a news release. "K9 Duke was enjoying retirement under the care of his previous handler and partner Officer Frank Flores."

Duke, a Belgian Malinois, went into retirement in April 2021.

"Officer Flores, the Flores family, and the San Angelo Police Department are deeply saddened at the loss of such a well-loved and devoted member of our police family," the release stated. "K9 Duke was a hard-working partner who selflessly served the citizens of the City of San Angelo and Tom Green County. He was responsible for locating large quantities of illegal narcotics and numerous articles of evidence/contraband during his career and he will be greatly missed. Please join us as we honor the life and loyal service of SAPD K9 Duke."
