San Angelo retirement community lands top ranks in Texas, nation

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — San Angelo’s own Buckner Baptist Retirement Community has earned a top-10 ranking in best continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) in Texas and a top-100 ranking nationwide by Newsweek magazine.

In a release issued by the Baptist Retirement Community, it was revealed that the CCRC earned an eighth-place ranking in Newsweek’s judgment of Texas, beating out 11 other communities involved in the magazine’s assessment. On the national level, the Baptist Retirement Community landed a cozy 84th-place ranking out of the 2,000 communities vetted by Newsweek.

Newsweek magazine annually ranks some 2,000 continuing care retirement communities across the country to help individuals make informed decisions about care for seniors. Only the top 250 are ranked.

“We are honored to be one of Texas’ best senior living communities and among the best in the country,” Aaron Hargett, senior executive director of the Baptist Retirement Community, said. “Our quality of service is reflective of the passion each of us have for serving seniors and inspiring happiness in their lives.”

The retirement community was also recognized by the U.S. News & World Report for excellence in multiple categories:

  • Best short-term rehabilitation care

  • Best long-term care

  • Best memory care

  • Best independent living

  • Best CCRC

U.S. News & World Report ranks senior care communities on a five-star rating for three categories: state-conducted health inspections, how much time nurses spend with residents and the quality of medical care. More than 15,000 senior care facilities and nursing homes were evaluated for the ranking.

“U.S. News provides in-depth information on multiple community types to help potential residents and their families find, in consultation with their doctors as needed, the best place to help meet their needs,” Zach Adams, a senior health data engineer at U.S. News & World Report, said. “Communities that are highly rated excel in making residents feel safe, well cared for and highly satisfied by the services provided.”

The Baptist Retirement Community is a CCRC in San Angelo that offers levels of living and care as residents’ needs change, including independent living, assisted living, long-term care, memory care, rehabilitation and respite care. It recently celebrated the renovation of its chapel building.
