San Angelo sends fire crews to Texas Panhandle

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — As fires continue to blaze in the Texas Panhandle and High Plains, several firefighting crews from across the state have loaded up and made the trip to battle the flames.

The San Angelo Fire Department shared a post on social media from The Canadian Record reporting that fire crews sent from San Angelo made it to Canadian.

Smokey haze covers Concho Valley

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, the “Grape Vine Creek” fire located southeast of Pampa in Hutchinson County has burned a total of 30,000 acres with 60% being contained as of Feb. 28. The “Smokehouse Creek” fire located north of Borger in Gray County has burned 500,000 acres with 0% being contained as of Wednesday morning.

Gov. Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration for 60 counties in Texas due to wildfires.

NWS issues red flag warning for parts of Concho Valley

Smoke and the smell of smoke continue to settle across San Angelo and other parts of the Concho Valley as winds from the north bring in a cold front.
