San Benito man accused of threatening to kill girlfriend, assaulting her father

Feb. 27—A 25-year-old San Benito man remains jailed following his arrest by U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Cameron County sheriff's deputies on a warrant charging him with aggravated assault.

Osvaldo Valentin Balderas is accused of threatening to kill his girlfriend and assaulting her father, Cameron County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

He was arrested Feb. 22 in the San Benito area.

The incident happened Dec. 10, 2022, at the 2300 block of Ed Palmer Drive in San Benito and authorities had been searching for Balderas, after collecting evidence to seek a warrant for his arrest, the news release said.

According to the news release, his girlfriend told him to leave her residence "but he managed to break a window and open a door. In the course of the assault, Balderas attempted to stab a neighbor of the victim as well."

Garcia is charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of aggravated assault of a family member and one count of terroristic threat.

He is also charged with possession of a controlled substance, for which he had an outstanding warrant.
