The San Bernardino County Library System invites residents to earn food items from Baker’s Drive-Thru and to participate in “Villain-themed” events this fall.

The SBC library system will partner with Baker’s Drive-Thru to promote reading among children and teens during the Baker’s Book Club program from Oct. 3 through Nov. 19.

To participate in the program, visit any SBC library to sign up, or online by using the Beanstack app at sbclib.beanstack.org.

Participants must be between the ages of 4 and 17, and a parent or guardian will need to sign to acknowledge reading accomplishments.

A voucher for a free Baker’s food item will be issued as reading goals are met. Each child and teen may earn a total of three awards and vouchers for the duration of the program.

Library Villain Events

The SBC library invites residents to join one of the many Villain Events, where they can meet fictional villains such as Ursula the Sea Witch or Maleficent the guardian fairy.

During the event, visitors can also enjoy a variety of fun-filled crafts, games, face painting, balloon artists and more.

Visitors should bring their library cards, as every 15 items checked out during the event earns visitors a dragon water-squirter and an opportunity to draw a ticket for a chance to win prizes.

All activities are free and open to all ages at the villain events, which take place in the following locations:

  • From 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 1 at the Barstow Branch Library, 304 East Buena Vista Street.

  • From 4 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Newton T. Bass Apple Valley Library at 14901 Dale Evans Parkway in Apple Valley.

Villains-themed book bags

Visitors to the library will get one of four different styles of Villains-themed book bags for every 30 items checked out from any SBC library.

The book bags will be available during October at all 32 branch libraries. Only receipts with items checked out during that time will be accepted.

The wrapped-bag campaign is another opportunity to celebrate and support the Countywide Vision’s literacy campaign, Vision2Read, SBC officials said.
