The San Diego boys added to their impressive 2023 powerlifting campaign by finishing second overall and breaking more records in the process at the state meet on Friday and Saturday at the Expo Center of Taylor County in Abilene.

The Vaqueros captured silver by finishing with 16 points, which was five points behind overall champion Cotulla.

Lukas Salaiz powered San Diego by lifting a record 1,680 pounds to claim first place in the 165-pound class and was named most outstanding bench in the light platform. Salaiz also set the squat (640) and bench (455) record.

Jaime Salinas won silver for the Vaqueros by lifting 1,630 pounds in the 181-pound class and set the squat (675) and bench record (440) in his class.

Beeville placed fourth overall with 14 points and Calallen took sixth in Division II with 12 points.

Cayetano Vidaurri led the Trojans by lifting 1,695 pounds in the 242 to earn silver.

Calallen was led by Aiden Hinojosa, who lifted 1,890 pounds at 275 to win gold and Lucian Medina, who lifted 1,565 pounds to earn silver.

London finished sixth in Division III with 10 points behind Zak Chapa, who lifted 1,155 pounds to win gold in the 123.

Also earning silver medals were Ingleside's Seth Morgan, who lifted 1,715 pounds in the 220 and set a new record in the bench press by lifting 465 pounds.

Robstown's Mark Pena also set a new state record in the bench press with 600 pounds and finished with 1,820 total pounds in the super heavyweight class.

Riviera's Andrew Gonzalez lifted 1,090 pounds in the 132 to place second.
