A police officer in San Diego, California, used his American Sign Language skills to assist a deaf woman having a medical emergency.
Footage of the encounter shows the officer, identified by the San Diego Police Department as Sgt. Wilcken, signing with a woman in a car.
The San Diego Police Department wrote of the September 13 encounter: “Sometimes the right person arrives at the right time. It happened recently when a woman called Uber for a ride. As the driver headed to the destination, the woman had a medical emergency and became disoriented. The Uber driver called us for help.”
“A sergeant from Southeastern arrived and realized the woman was deaf. Just her luck, the Sergeant knows sign language! The woman was able to tell him where she lived and he got her home safely. You never know who is going to cross your path and help you get to where you need to go.” Credit: San Diego Police Department via Storyful
