San Francisco Giants coming to West Sacramento for exhibition game against River Cats

The San Francisco Giants are coming back to Sacramento.
The Sacramento River Cats will host the Giants in an exhibition game March 24 at Sutter Health Park. The game will mark the start of the 25th anniversary campaign for the River Cats, who began playing in Sacramento in 2000.
The Giants will play their Triple-A affiliate for the first time since 2018 and the third time overall. The Giants took over Sacramento’s Major League affiliation from the Oakland Athletics in 2014.
“We look forward to kicking off our 25th season by welcoming the San Francisco Giants back to Sacramento,” River Cats President and COO Chip Maxson said in a news release. “The fan response to the Exhibition Games in 2016 and 2018 was truly amazing and we look forward to the energy and enthusiasm of a capacity crowd at Sutter Health Park on March 24.”
Added Giants President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi: “We are extremely excited to be able to bring Giants baseball directly to the Sacramento community. Sutter Health Park sets the standard for a quality ballpark experience and our exhibition game on March 24 will be a great way to help us kick off our 2024 season.”
Beyond Sacramento being the Giants’ top minor league affiliate, the club has players with ties to the region. Ace pitcher Logan Webb was drafted out of nearby Rocklin High School, where he nearly picked football over baseball as a teenager. Corner infielder J.D. Davis, who is arbitration eligible this offseason, went to baseball powerhouse Elk Grove High School.
Assistant coach Alyssa Nakken, a Woodland native, made baseball history in April 2022 when she became the first woman to coach on the field during during a Major League game. She played softball at Sacramento State.
