San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors’ chair Tom Patti has announced that he is running for Congress in next year’s elections.

“Those representing us in Washington D.C. have forgotten about us and our needs,” Patti said in his campaign announcement video posted online. “That is unacceptable.”

With redistricting efforts currently underway in California, it has yet to be determined which district San Joaquin County will be assigned to.

In an email announcing his campaign, Patti said his congressional-run agenda includes prioritizing vocational career education, encouraging more parental involvement in children's education and well-being and stepping away from “the 'cancel culture' perpetuated by those in leadership right now and towards less divisive, common-sense solutions that put our community first.”

Patti previously discussed a congressional campaign ahead of an October fundraiser where pro boxer Mike Tyson was a featured guest.

They met decades ago before Tyson went pro, when he and Patti trained together early in Tyson's boxing career.

Then, Patti told USA Today if he pursued the congressional seat, he would be running as a Republican.

Patti, who owns Stockton-based Delta Cranes, was elected to the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors in 2016 to represent District 3, which includes the cities of Lathrop, Manteca and Stockton.
