Free rides to cooling centers
The San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) offers free bus rides to or near cooling centers for the community when temperatures reach 100 degrees or more.
Free rides are available on Local, Hoppers and Van Go! Services.
Those who plan on traveling on Local or Hopper services to a cooling center should inform the bus operator of their destination upon boarding to ride at no cost.
Van Go! Services are available on “space-available basis” to book a same-day reservation call (209) 943-1111 and choose option 3 then option 1.
“It is not uncommon to experience heat soaring into the triple digits in San Joaquin County,” said RTD CEO Alex Clifford in a statement. “The close coordination with the San Joaquin County Office of Emergency Services allows RTD to quickly implement measures to assure the safety and wellness of our community.”
