San Joaquin County will be represented by new districts for the California State Legislature and the U.S. Congress.

Each decade after the U.S. Census, the California Citizens Redistricting Commission reevaluates voting districts to reflect population changes. The commission completed its most recent evaluation in late December.

Most San Joaquin County residents who were polled favored having one Congressional district, one state Senate district and two state Assembly districts represent the county. County officials recommended these preferences to the commission.

"What you will find overall is our efforts were successful," Assistant County Administrator Sandra Regalo said Tuesday.

District 9 will include all of San Joaquin County except for Lathrop and some unincorporated areas of south Tracy. The district will also include small parts of Contra Costa and Stanislaus counties.

Lathrop and the unincorporated areas of Tracy will be part of District 13.

The new California Senate District 5 includes San Joaquin County in addition to part of Alameda County. It also includes portions of Sacramento and Stanislaus counties.

A part of Alameda County was included because the commission determined that it shares transportation needs with San Joaquin County, particularly with the Tracy area, Regalo said.

District 5 is represented by Sen. Susan Talamantes Eggman, D-Stockton.
