Sandra Bullock's long-term partner Bryan Randall has died, after a private battle with a neurological disease.

The Lost City actress, who met the professional photographer back in 2015, confirmed the tragic news that Randall passed away on August 5, aged 57, after a three-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

In a statement (via Entertainment Weekly), the family said: "Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honour his request.

"We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours."

They added: "At this time we ask for privacy to grieve and to come to terms with the impossibility of saying goodbye to Bryan."

There is sadly no cure for the neurological disease, which is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. In Randall's memory, the family suggested that a donation could be made to continue the vital research into finding an effective treatment for ALS through the ALS Association.

The couple met in 2015 when Bullock hired Randall to photograph her son Louis' birthday party, and later the actress went on to call him the "love of her life" in an interview in 2021.

The terrible news comes after Bullock announced she was taking a break from acting, earlier in the year, citing that she needed to be at home for the foreseeable future.

She told CBS News Sunday Morning: "Right now, work in front of the camera needs to take a pause.

"I don't know [for how long], I don't know. Until I don't feel like I feel now when I'm in front of a camera.

"I want to be at home. I'm not doing anyone any favours, who's investing in a project if I'm saying, 'I just want to be at home'."

She said about the length of her hiatus: "I don't know what a while is. I don't know what that is."
