Sandwich & pizza chain opens first Johnson County location. This one has a drive-thru

Columbia-based Pickleman’s Gourmet Cafe has opened its first area location with a drive-thru.

The new restaurant, at 13516 S. Alden St. in Olathe, will have a grand opening at 10 a.m. Thursday. The first two drive-thru customers and the first two dine-in customers will receive a free Pickleman’s gift basket with a $50 gift certificate to Pickleman’s, a jar of its signature giardiniera peppers, a Pickleman’s T-shirt and hat, and dill potato chips.

The location also has dine-in, delivery and catering.

Doug Stritzel founded Pickleman’s Gourmet Cafe in Columbia in 2005 and he is now CEO. The company has nearly 30 locations in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Indiana, Nebraska and Oklahoma.

The menu includes lightly toasted sub sandwiches (such as veggie, chicken salad, turkey bacon club, asiago chicken, Italian beef), soups (such as tomato basil bisque, broccoli cheese and Baja chicken), fresh salads, thin-and-crispy pizzas and its popular made-from-scratch cookies (using butter and baked in-house). The chain also buys chicken and pork with no antibiotics.

The Olathe restaurant is owned by franchisee Peak Performance Brands, which also has two locations in Lawrence. Another franchisee owns the Pickleman’s in downtown Kansas City, Waldo and Westport.
