Sandwich has new polling places as of May 4 election. Here's where to go.

With the Henry T. Wing School under construction, and safety issues at local schools, voting locations will change in Sandwich, according to the town clerk's office.

Sandwich Town Clerk Taylor White said voting precincts will remain the same, but voting locations will change in perpetuity, beginning with local elections on May 4.

Voters in precincts 1, 2 and 3 will now report to Corpus Christie Parish Hall, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Road. Voters from Precincts 1 and 2 formerly voted at the Henry T. Wing School, but the school is now being repurposed for housing. Voters in Precinct 3 used to vote at the Oakridge School, but because of safety concerns, they will be re-routed.

"We've been trying to use this (Corpus Christie) location for years and we were finally able to reach a deal," said White.

Precincts 4, 5 and 6 will also change locations. Instead of reporting to Oakridge School and Forestdale School, voters will now vote at the Center for Active Living gymnasium, said White. The new Center for Active Living is located at 70 Quaker Meetinghouse Road.

Because the Center for Active Living is centrally located in town, and has adequate space, White said it's the perfect location.

"So now we will be covering both ends of Quaker Meetinghouse Road with Precincts 1 through 6," said White.

Early voting will now be available for local elections.

In the past, White said there's been early voting for state elections only.

"There was early voting for the presidential primary, the state primary and the general elections in November," he said.

But the Votes Act, which passed June 2022, now allows for early voting in local elections in Massachusetts, said White.

In-person early voting will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 24 to April 28 at the Sandwich Town Hall, 100 Route 6A, he said.

"The Votes Act allows cities and towns the option to offer in-person early voting for local elections. To ensure consistency with other elections, the Board of Registrars, Board of Selectmen and myself decided to start offering it this year," said White.
