Sanford, Avera closing Sioux Falls metro clinics next 2 days as winter storm hits

Sanford Health and Avera Health announced Tuesday that they would close their Sioux Falls area clinics starting at noon Wednesday as another major snow storm targets the area.

Both healthcare systems will remain closed through Thursday and reopen Friday. Sanford will have normal hours while Avera will reopen at 10 a.m. Friday.

This snow system is expected to bring anywhere from 11 to 16 inches, and the National Weather Service of Sioux Falls is advising residents to prepare to shelter through Thursday.

Sanford Health closures

This notice also applies to Sanford's clinics in Brandon, Harrisburg, Hartford and Lennox as well as adult and pediatric outpatient therapy appointments.

The Sanford acute care clinics on 26th & Sycamore and 32nd & Ellis will remain open for in-person care. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Sanford will have extra providers available for on-demand virtual acute care appointments, which can be scheduled in the patient’s My Sanford Chart online.

This is the second time Sanford Health has closed because of the weather this year. Another major storm at the beginning of January led to Sanford closing its metro locations for an afternoon before having a late-start opening the next day.

Avera Health closures

Avera Medical Group in Brandon will also close until Friday.

Avera's urgent care centers at Dawley Farm and Marion Road will remain open for in-person care. Extended hours will be 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

The Avera Urgent Care at 69th and Western will be closed, as will the Orthopedic Urgent Care center.
