Sanford High School names top 10 students in the Class of 2023

SANFORD, Maine — Sanford High School has announced its top 10 students in the Class of 2023.

Samantha Phillips

Samantha Phillips is the daughter of Melissa and Thomas Phillips.

Samantha's high school activities include Key Club, National Honor Society, Math Team, Pep Club and Peer Helpers. She was also on the cheerleading team, serving as captain in her junior and senior years.

Outside of school, Samantha is a math tutor and volunteers at the Grammy Rose Dog Rescue.

Samantha was accepted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Columbia University, Princeton University and the University of Maine. She plans to major in biological-chemical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Hannah Katherine Baker

Hannah Katherine Baker is the daughter of Kristie and Harold Baker.

Hannah's high school activities include yearbook, Environmental Club, Civil Right Team, Theater Club, Chorus and National Honor Society. She spent all four years on the Student Council and was the class treasurer.

Outside of school, Hannah is a competitive dancer at the Northern Explosion Dance Studio.

Hannah was accepted to Suffolk University, Lewis & Clark College, Siena College and the University of Vermont. She plans to major in environmental studies at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont.

John-Paul Alexandre

John-Paul Alexandre is the son of Laura and Michael Alexandre.

John-Paul's high school activities include Key Club, National Honor Society, Homecoming Committee, Sanford School Committee, Sanford High School Schedule Advisory Committee and Leadership Council. He also played soccer and track and field in all four years of high school.

Outside of school, John-Paul is on the Maine Attraction Water Ski Show Team and is a member of the Gunstock Outreach Program. He has also volunteered at St. Therese Parish, Sanford Soccer, Salvation Army and Maine Attraction adaptive water ski clinics.

John-Paul was accepted to Mercy College and Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University. He plans to major in homeland security and intelligence at Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Abbey Gifford

Abbey Gifford is the daughter of Cheryl and Adam Gifford.

Abbey's high school activities include Book Club, Environmental Club, Art Club and the National Honor Society. She is a member of the Seacoast Fencing Team and Sanford Spartans Swim Team, where she is the current captain.

Outside of school, Abbey volunteers at Tale Time Reading Program and the Linus Project and is a KUMA Basketball Timer.

Abbey was accepted to the University of Rhode Island, Bucknell University, Mount Holyoke, Dalhousie University, University of Victoria, Maine Maritime and Clark University. She plans to major in geological oceanography and environmental science management at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, Rhode Island.

Audrey Coleman

Audrey Coleman is the daughter of Lori and Patrick Coleman.

Audrey's high school activities include Key Club, National Honor Society, Yearbook, Peer Helpers and Student Council. She also was a member of the Sanford Cheering Team, where she served as captain.

Outside of school, Audrey is an SSYAA cheer coach and a volunteer at Compassion Closet.

She plans to major in journalism at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts.

Avery Morissette

Avery Morissette is the daughter of Deb Bernier and Mary Morissette.

Avery's high school activities include Environmental Club, Peer Helpers, Homecoming Committee, Prom Committee, School Counseling Advisory Committee and the National Honor Society. She also played field hockey and was a member of the Student Council.

Outside of school, Avery dances at the Dance Studio of Maine and volunteers for Grahamtastic Connection.

She plans to major in dance at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Miranda Rebecca Tanguay

Miranda Rebecca Tanguay is the daughter of John and Rebecca Tanguay.

Miranda's high school activities include Theater Club, Environmental Club, Key Club and National Honor Society. She also was a member of the lacrosse and swim team.

Outside of school, Miranda participates in dance and is a stagehand for national tours through Sanford Performing Arts Center.

Miranda was accepted to Pace University, Champlain College, Pepperdine University, Emerson College, Ithaca College and Columbia College. She plans to major in media arts production at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts.

Isabella Tremblay

Isabella Tremblay is the daughter of Corinna and Jason Tremblay.

Isabella's high school activities include Key Club, National Honor Society, Homecoming Committee, Peer Helpers, and Pep Club. She also was a member of the Cheering Team, where she served as captain in her senior year.

Outside of school, Isabella is a member of the Maine Attraction Water Ski Show Team and Gunstock Outreach Program. She volunteers at adaptive water ski clinics and the Maine Children's Cancer Program.

Isabella was accepted to Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida Southern College, Stetson University, University of New England, University of Maine, Rollins College and Plymouth State University. She plans to major in biology at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.

Nathan Ghedoni is the son of Stephen Ghedoni and Cheryl Smith.

Nathan's high school activities include Math Team and the National Honor Society.

Outside of school, Nathan volunteers at the Color Fun Run and Springvale Library Book Sale.

Nathan was accepted to Champlain College, Wabash College, Saint Anselm College, Thomas College, Roanoke College and the University of Southern, Maine. He plans to major in computer science at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, Maine.

Ana Cote

Ana Cote is the daughter of Adam and Paula Cote.

Ana's high school activities include Homecoming Committee, Prom Committee, Yearbook, Environmental Club, Key Club, Student Council and National Honor Society. She also was a member of the soccer, track and unified basketball teams.

Outside of school, Ana was a youth soccer camp coach and served meals at church for families in need.

Ana was accepted to the University of Maine, University of New Hampshire, Plymouth State, Saint Anselm, Stonehill, Assumption University, Wheaton College, Bryant University and Endicott College. She plans to major in political science and minor in legal studies at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts.
