Santa Barbara is getting its own Monopoly board game. What landmarks should be featured?

Santa Barbara will soon be getting its own edition of Monopoly, and community members are being asked for their input on what local landmarks and properties should be included on the board.

From now until April 28, Santa Barbara residents and fans of the classic Hasbro board game can send in their suggestions.

Santa Barbara locations will be replacing classic Monopoly properties, such as Boardwalk and Park Place, and the Community Chest and Chance cards will also be customized to Santa Barbara.

“We aim to showcase Santa Barbara in all its glory, displaying all the local favorites and cherished places, from the Old Mission Santa Barbara to La Super-Rica Taqueria, to many other iconic landmarks,” said Jennifer Tripsea, representative of Top Trumps, which is developing the new game edition.

“We want to hear from the community which local favorites they would like to see represented. The edition will be everything you love from the traditional game infused with some of the places you recommend, so please write in!”

Board game mascot Mr. Monopoly recently visited Santa Barbara and met with Mayor Randy Rowse to announce the new edition and scope out some of Santa Barbara’s hot spots.

The Monopoly board game was first released in 1935, and now has several different editions, from Animal Crossing and Star Wars editions to Millionaire and Cheaters editions.

According to a news release announcing the local edition, Monopoly is played by more than one billion people in 114 countries around the world.

Top Trumps USA is now developing and releasing official customized editions of Monopoly based on a variety of different communities in the North American market under a license from Hasbro.

Some of the editions Top Trumps has already released include a Palm Springs edition, a Lake Tahoe edition and a Kansas City edition.

“Each community-based Monopoly experience will pay homage to all of the favorite locations, icons, and businesses creating a gameplay that truly embraces what makes each community unique and special,” Top Trumps said.
