Santa Clara Co. Coronavirus Update: 3 More Deaths, 2,122 Cases

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA – Three more Santa Clara County residents have died from the new coronavirus, which takes the country-wide death toll to 106, local health officials announced on Tuesday.

There are now 2,122 confirmed cases in the county, including 20 new cases which were announced on Tuesday. The largest percentage of people (18 percent) who have been diagnosed falling between the ages of 51-60 followed by 31-40 and 41-50 (17 percent each). Local health officials said Tuesday that community transmission continues to be widespread around Santa Clara County with the highest number of positive cases being recorded in San Jose (1,409) followed by Sunnyvale (119) and Santa Clara (101).

Tuesday’s report from local health officials comes just a day after officials in six counties – including San Mateo County – announced they would extend the Shelter In Place order through May. The current order was to expire on May 3, but county executives agreed that they needed to see a decline in positive cases and deaths as well as an increase in deaths before they would consider lifting the order.

There are still 182 patients hospitalized in the county, according to new data, with 1,032 beds and 772 ventilators available for use if needed.
