Santa Clara County Ruling Could Nix Prep Sports Season: Report

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County high school sports season appears to be the latest casualty of the coronavirus.

County officials at a school superintendent meeting Tuesday announced new restrictions that make the prospect of salvaging a spring season improbable, The Mercury News reports.

The new restrictions prohibit teams, described by county officials as “stable groups,” from participating in any activity resembling competitive athletics according to the report.

The “stable groups” are prohibited from being the same room indoors and are required to be at the minimum 25 feet apart in outdoor settings, the report said.

Athletes will also have to be six feet apart from each other within “stable groups” in practices and can’t cross county lines to avoid Santa Clara County’s tough restrictions according to the report.
