Santa Fe opening safe outdoor space called Pallet Village

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – The City of Santa Fe is working to address homelessness with the opening of the city’s first “safe outdoor space.” The pilot program will start with 10 shelters at Christ Lutheran Church.

The shelters will be operated by The Life Link, which has a contract with the city to provide case management, behavioral health, employment help, and other services to those living at the site.

“We continue to look for solutions to homelessness. The obvious solution is more places for unhoused people to have safe, personal places to live and also to have services and amenities for their overall well-being,” Mayor Alan Webber said in a press release. “This first Safe Outdoor space is a testimony to the hard work of City staff, the leadership of Christ Lutheran Church, The Life Link, and the many individuals and organizations that are committed to this shared cause. Finally, it’s made possible by the people of Santa Fe and our shared values as a community.”

The public can get a tour of the Safe Outdoor Space on March 25, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. The site is at 1701 Arroyo Chamiso Road.

The shelters come from the manufacturer, Pallet. They are small shelters with beds, shelving, and other conveniences. The city has purchased 25 of the Pallet shelters.
