Santa Returns To Falls Church Atop Fire Engine In 2020

FALLS CHURCH, VA — The coronavirus pandemic doesn't mean the spirit of the holiday season won't be making its way through Falls Church. The Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department's Santamobile will ride again in 2020.

Santa will ride atop a decorated fire engine alongside his helpers from Dec. 15 to Dec. 23. The first five nights are reserved for the City of Falls Church, and the remaining nights will be make-up dates or visits to neighboring areas in Arlington and Fairfax counties.

Similar to past years, residents can come out to greet Santa and his helpers from a distance. When you hear music and see the lights, you'll know when the Santamobile is coming. This year, Santa's helpers will not be passing out candy canes or safety materials due to the pandemic. Residents are asked to maintain social distancing, wear face masks, and stay on sidewalks.

Here is the route for the first five days:

  • Dec. 15: South of West Broad Street in the St. James Cemetery and Virginia Forest neighborhoods up to and including Seaton Lane and South Oak south of the Tripps Run bridge

  • Dec. 16: North of West Broad Street including Little Falls Street.

  • Dec. 17: South of West Broad Street in the Tyler Gardens neighborhood and Virginia Forest neighborhood south of Seaton Lane; also includes streets north of the Tripps Run bridge (Hillier, South Oak, Lee, Rees, Chanel).

  • Dec. 18: The Little Falls neighborhood, and streets east of Washington Street including the Madison Park and Whittier Park neighborhoods.

  • Dec. 19: Broadmont neighborhood and streets on the north side of Hillwood east of Cherry Street.

Routes are subject to change based on road conditions such as parking, traffic and construction. Residents can follow www.facebook.com/FallsChurchVFD to find out when the Santamobile will be in your neighborhood. The volunteer fire department will provide schedule updates on Facebook when possible. Residents are asked to send questions to santamobile@fallschurchfire.org rather than calling the station about the Santamobile routes.
