Santo Domingo man, daughter killed in Rail Runner crash

Jul. 25—New Mexico State Police on Monday identified the driver killed in a Rail Runner Express commuter train crash with a vehicle as Santo Domingo Pueblo resident Derrick Tenorio.

He was accompanied by his 6-year-old daughter, who also died, said state police Officer Dusty Francisco, a spokesman for the agency.

Tenorio, 30, was traveling east toward N.M. 313 on a private road when he tried to drive over a railroad crossing while a southbound Rail Runner train was traveling by. His Jeep Cherokee was hit on the driver's side, state police said in a news release.

State police responded to the incident at about 11:15 a.m. Sunday. Tenorio and his daughter were both pronounced dead at the scene.
