US Rep. George Santos arrested on federal criminal charges
Santos is in hot water. In a reckoning for a web of fraud and deceit, the freshman New York lawmaker, infamous for fabricating his life story, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges he duped donors, stole from his campaign and lied to Congress about being a millionaire, all while cheating to collect unemployment benefits. Santos said afterward that he wouldn’t drop his reelection bid, defying calls to resign. Santos, 34, was released on $500,000 bond following his arraignment, after turning himself in to face 13-count federal charges of wire fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds and making false statements to Congress. FDA panel backs OTC birth control pill
Before the end of the year, someone needing birth control pills might be able to pick up a pack off the shelf at their local CVS or Walgreens. An FDA advisory panel on Wednesday unanimously recommended the agency allow the Opill birth control pill to be available over the counter in the U.S. for the first time ever. Experts on the panel said they were confident they could, and the benefits of making the pill more widely available far outweigh any risks. A final decision is expected this summer. What to know.

Report: Inflation still up there, but grocery costs cooling
Inflation is still high, but hey: Eggs are getting cheaper! Inflation slowed for a tenth straight month in April as another drop in grocery bills offset a rebound in gasoline costs, providing some relief to Americans squeezed by a two-year run-up in prices. Gasoline prices jumped 3% just in April. By contrast, grocery prices dropped for a second straight month. Overall, consumer prices increased 4.9% from a year earlier, down from 5% in March and a 40-year high of 9.1% last June, according to the Labor Department’s consumer price index. W. Virginia coach sidelined over homophobic slur
Two days after West Virginia men's basketball coach Bob Huggins used a homophobic slur multiple times during a radio interview, the Hall of Famer is facing the music. The university says it will reduce Huggins' pay for the 2023-24 season by $1 million. He will also be suspended for the first three games of the season and undergo sensitivity training.
