Herrick District Library’s main branch at 300 S. River Ave. will be renovated over the next year beginning mid-summer. The 25-year-old building needs a leaky roof replaced, worn carpeting updated, and a few other various repairs. The project budget also has room for a few improvements, such as moving the digital media lab and maker space, Groundworks, to a more visible location on the main level.

Last week, when my daughter came to the library to do homework, she asked me about the large white board in the library lobby with the words “We Want Your Input” across the top. Our conversation gave me a chance to talk with her about what the library is doing to collect input from community members for the renovation project.

Each week for six weeks, a new question will be posed to library users on the large white board in the lobby. Library users have the opportunity to answer each question using white board markers. Library visitors will also have the chance to “vote” on images they like and dislike using a dot poll poster that displays various furniture options under consideration.

A series of brief surveys are available on the library's website, allowing people who don't visit the library every week to share their input virtually.

Ready to share your input on the library renovation project? Visit herrickdl.org and click the “We Want Your Input” rotating banner on the homepage, or visit the main library in person. Community input will be used to shape the look and feel of the newly renovated main library.
