Sara Gilbert won't miss this about 'The Talk': 'I’m OK with letting that piece of it go'

It turns out Sara Gilbert isn't so fond of talking about her personal life on-air.

The "Conners" star, who in April announced she was leaving CBS' "The Talk," which she created, shared with Variety's “My Favorite Episode” podcast that she is happy about leaving the intimate broadcast conversations behind.

"There is some relief and thinking like, ‘Wow, if I go through anything in my personal life now, I don’t have to talk about it,' " she said. "That’s a been a stretch for me, because I’ve never been a very public person. I think I put myself on the show to try to push the boundaries like that and grow spiritually and psychologically, but I’m OK with letting that piece of it go.”

When Gilbert, 44, revealed her departure on "The Talk," she called it an "extremely difficult" decision to make.

She said her demanding schedule has created an imbalance between her work and personal life, affecting herself and her three children – sons Levi, 14, and Rhodes, 4, and daughter Sawyer, 11.

She said on Variety's podcast that "Something had to give."

"I’ve been lucky enough to do the talk show for nine years. And so that felt like the right move is, ‘OK, I’ve done that. And I’ve fully explored it,’ " she said. "And now it’s time to do other creative ventures."

"The Conners," the "Roseanne" spinoff resulting from Roseanne Barr's ousting, was renewed for a second season in March. Though Gilbert revealed on "My Favorite Episode" the cast and producers "were all scared" about the spinoff.

“It was definitely a risk to come back. And we didn’t know how it was going to go," she said. "We didn’t know how the reviews were going to go.”

After the show's warm reception, Gilbert felt more confident.

“We just thought, ‘wow,’ we pulled it off somehow," she said. "It wasn’t an easy decision to make on any level. I think a lot of the cast had a little tug of war in their mind.”

For the series, Gilbert resumes her role of Darlene, daughter to Dan and Roseanne Conner, and serves as executive producer.

When Season 10 of "The Talk" begins in September, Marie Osmond will take Gilbert's place at the table with current co-hosts Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood, Eve and Carrie Ann Inaba.
