Sarah, Duchess of York was pictured smiling as she left hospital and said that she was “fine” following her skin cancer diagnosis.

The Duchess, 64, disclosed on Sunday that she had been diagnosed with a malignant melanoma, six months after she underwent a single mastectomy for breast cancer.

She was pictured on Wednesday leaving King Edward VII’s Hospital in London, where she is being treated by consultant dermatologist Catherine Borysiewicz.

The Duchess, who learnt of her second diagnosis shortly after Christmas, gave a brief but positive update to well-wishers in Marylebone, telling them: “I’m fine, thank you.”

She stopped to chat to members of the public after her hospital appointment before being ushered away by her driver.

‘Very resilient’

A spokesman for the Duchess said she was “very resilient” and was determined to carry on despite the double diagnosis.

In the announcement on Sunday, her spokesman said: “Following her diagnosis with an early form of breast cancer this summer, Sarah, Duchess of York has now been diagnosed with malignant melanoma.

“Her dermatologist asked that several moles were removed and analysed at the same time as the Duchess was undergoing reconstructive surgery following her mastectomy, and one of these has been identified as cancerous.”

The Duchess underwent a single mastectomy and breast reconstruction surgery last summer and has been praised for speaking openly about her diagnosis and encouraging other women to get themselves checked for breast cancer.

After her new diagnosis, the mother-of-two wrote on her social media that her skin cancer detection was “thanks to the great vigilance of my dermatologist”.

She added: “Naturally another cancer diagnosis has been a shock but I am in good spirits and grateful for the many messages of love and support.

“I am incredibly thankful to the medical teams that have supported me through both of these experiences with cancer and to the MAYRLIFE Clinic for taking gentle care of me in the past weeks, allowing me time for recuperation.”

It comes as the King is due to be admitted to hospital for treatment for an enlarged prostate, while the Princess of Wales remains in hospital recovering from major abdominal surgery.
