Sarcoxie Lady Bears defeats College Heights 61-59 in an overtime thriller

SARCOXIE, Mo. — District tournaments are right around the corner and for some teams in Southwest Missouri Friday night was their last regular season game. In Sarcoxie, the Lady Bears hosted the College Heights for senior night and home finale.

The Lady Bears wins a nail-biter over College Heights in overtime 61-59. Sarcoxie moves to 11-15 on the season. Meanwhile, the Lady Cougars end their regular season 12-13.

It was a close game the entire duration of the game. College Heights led late in the fourth by as much as 14, but Sarcoxie didn’t go away without a fight. They tied the game with a big three from Remi Garrison to make it a two-point game. Then, on a missed free throw from Garrison, Sarcoxie got the rebound and scored to tie the game up at 51. College Heights had several opportunities to score before regulation but came up short.

In overtime, both teams were in the bonus and used that to their advantage. A late foul sent a Sarcoxie player to the charity stripe and nailed both free throws. With seven seconds left, the Lady Cougars got one good shot at the rim from Libby Fanning but it was no good.

Next up for College Heights is the Class 2 District 12 Tournament in Marionville. The Lady Cougars will play Verona in the opening round on Monday, February 19th at 7:30 p.m.

Sarcoxie still has one more game remaining in their regular season. The Lady Bears will travel to Wheaton to square off against the Bulldogs on Friday, February 16th at 6 p.m.
