Sarkis Chorbadjian uses experiences from travel, memories of the ancient world in his art

"I often ask myself; am I illustrating ideas or am I evoking them?"

BIO: Originally from the island of Cyprus, Sarkis Chorbadjian has lived in Greenville since 1978. In 1986 he established Sarkis Studio, primarily working with interior designers.  Faux finishes, framing, and restorations kept the studio busy for the next decade.

His carving skills gave way to his next venture; hand crafted drapery hardware for which he is known internationally. “All the while, I worked on paintings at the end of the work day mainly to relax and gather my thoughts,” he says. Experiences from travel and memories of the ancient world play a major role in his artwork.

His abstract landscape paintings are personal responses to places he has visited or imagined. The viewer is invited to travel with the artist, to feel and sense the memories, and to discover new ones.
