Sassy Saturday is part of busy Worthington weekend

Oct. 13—WORTHINGTON — A style show, goodie bags, sales and drawings for two huge gift bags are all part of the 11th annual Sassy Saturday event in Worthington this Saturday.

The special event, planned by the retail committee of Forward Worthington, begins at 9 a.m. at the Nobles County Fairgrounds, 1600 Stower Dr., Worthington, with a drive-thru style show and distribution of goodie bags to the first 150 shoppers in line.

Last year, shoppers began to line up inside the fairgrounds, and their vehicles extended down Stower Drive, North McMillan and into the Walmart parking lot, so people are urged to arrive early if they hope to get a goodie bag.

"We have 150 bags packed with goodies from the merchants that are participating in the event," shared Robyn Moser, a retail committee member and style show participant. On Saturday, she will model apparel shoppers can find at her downtown Worthington store, The Stag.

The style show will feature models from several local stores, with information about what they are wearing shared in online podcasts offered by both The Globe and RadioWorks. The information can be easily accessed with a smartphone by scanning the QR code on the brochures distributed to those in line.

With the style show beginning at 9 a.m., vehicles will begin to move through the fairgrounds and then head to their favorite shopping destinations in the community. Plans include having some additional vendors at the fairgrounds for people to stop and visit as well.

Inside their goodie bags, they will find little goodies donated by local businesses and coupons good for Saturday only, as well as a $5 voucher for lunch at Hy-Vee's Market Grille between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Sassy Saturday began 11 years ago as the idea of Amanda Walljasper-Tate, owner of The Daily Apple. On Saturday, the shop will offer a sale on clothing and jewelry in-store, and feature guest vendors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. During that time, shoppers may sample Boernsen Bees honey (produced near Ocheyedan, Iowa), meet the owners of Alpha's Alternatives CBD oil and try their products for pain and emotions, browse handknitted goods, and visit the owners of Simply Pure, who make bath bombs and other natural products.

Moser said the event is a perfect way to kick off some fall shopping or perhaps get some holiday or Christmas shopping completed.

"It's a fun afternoon to get out — a fun afternoon of shopping and getting to know what Worthington has to offer," she added.

Registration boxes will be located in each of the 21 participating shops on Saturday, and shoppers are invited to sign up at any and all of the businesses for a chance to win one of two large gift baskets to be given away following the event.

The two gift baskets include gift certificates and donated items from participating businesses, with one boasting $100 in Chamber checks and the other, $50 in Chamber checks.

Moser said Sassy Saturday is one of her favorite shopping events.

"It brings a lot of traffic through the store," she said. "A lot of ladies like to shop in groups, and it's just a really fun atmosphere."

At The Stag on Saturday, shoppers will be able to do a make-and-take bracelet, and Lisa Schutte's Homemade Sweets & Treats will also be featured.

Participating in the event are Chamber member businesses: Hers & Mine Boutique, The Daily Apple, The Stag Clothiers, Adorn 1024, Ace Hardware, Worthington Monument, Johnson Jewelry, Brown's Shoe Fit, Seed & Stem 12:27, Runnings, Edina Realty, Classy & Sassy Boutique, Carpet Plus, Midwest Dahlias Boutique, Hy-Vee, Worthington Liquor Store, Friends of the Auditorium, Billion Auto, Sterling Pharmacy and Starbucks, all of Worthington, and Refab Furnishings of Round Lake.
