The SAT To Go Online With a Shorter Duration
The College Board recently announced that the SAT will take the digital route in 2024, featuring a shorter test-taking time of two hours. The transition comes after the issues centering around the test's fairness and relevance, as well as COVID-19.
The standardized testing company attempted a digital SAT back in November last year, with 80% of students finding it less stressful. Danielle, a U.S. student who took the pilot digital SAT, made a comment about its more streamlined process. "I like how easy the setup was overall, the quick instructions on test day, and the much less stressful test format," she said. As part of the changes, shorter reading passages will each feature one question reflecting the works students read in college, with calculators permitted throughout the math section.
The shorter online format will provide more flexibility to states, districts and schools in terms of how to administer the test. The SAT's current scoring system will also be maintained, with the PSATs and the international SAT scheduled to go digital next year.
