The Satellite High boys tennis team will try to hold on to its control of the Cape Coast Conference on Thursday with a match against Edgewood.

The Scorpions and Red Wolves will meet at 4 p.m. on the Merritt Island school's courts as the top representatives of the northern and southern halves of the conference with the overall championship on the line. Satellite won the south with a 7-0 mark against CCC South opponents, a game ahead of runner-up Melbourne. Edgewood matched that record in its half of the conference, Merritt Island one game back.

Satellite, 12-1 overall with its only loss coming against Lake Nona, already has a 6-1 win over the Red Wolves from a March 2 meeting, also at Edgewood.

"I think, in Brevard County, we're the best team, but playing a team a second time is never easy," Scorps head coach Jim Crane said.

Satellite has produced back-to-back Class 2A state runner-up finishes in the state tournament, but the top two individuals graduated last year. Last year's No. 3, Caleb Domkowski, now fills the No. 1 spot as a senior. No. 2 Jack Lindstrom is a ninth-grader, and both he and new No. 3 Roman Vigliotti have taken turns playing at No. 1.

That has strengthened the depth of his team, but Crane doesn't yet know how far that will get the Scorps into the postseason.

"We'll do well at the district," he said. "If we get past the regional, we have a pretty good draw at state."

Satellite would be matched up with teams from the Tampa area rather than powerhouse south Florida representatives.

District play is the week of April 10, and regional play will follow the week after.
